Train-the-Trainer Course

The FIP® TOT allows teams of trainers to learn to implement both the patrol officers’ and first-line supervisors’ curricula. This 2-day TOT “walks” trainers through every aspect of the FIP Training Program and provides opportunities to practice teaching both curricula.

At the conclusion of the TOT, trainers will be able to:

• Understand and effectively communicate the science of implicit bias.
• Understand and effectively communicate that fair and impartial policing leads to safe, effective and just policing.
• Use the FIP Training curricula to teach academy recruits and patrol officers and first-line supervisors to: (1) recognize their conscious and implicit biases and (2) implement skills to promote fair and impartial policing in their daily work.

At the conclusion of the TOT, trainers will be able to:

• Understand and effectively communicate that fair and impartial policing leads to safe, effective and just policing.
• Use the FIP® Training curricula to teach academy recruits and patrol officers and first-line supervisors to: (1) recognize their conscious and implicit biases and (2) implement skills to promote fair and impartial policing in their daily work.

The FIP Booster TOT course is a 3-hour course that will enable agency instructors to implement the NEW FIP® 4- hour Booster Training. This course is provided to officers and first-line supervisors who have already had the basic FIP course. The core concepts from the basic FIP training are reviewed along with high-quality movie vignettes that allow the participants to apply the key FIP principles to common policing situations.

1-Day/4 Hour TOT Recertification and Booster Course
Online

4-hour Recertification Course-The FIP® Recertification Course is designed for agency trainers who attended a FIP Train-the-Trainer course in 2019 or later. Attendees will review the key principles of FIP, be introduced to updates to the Patrol Officer and Supervisor curricula, discuss implementation tips, policy review, and more.

The virtual Recertification Course will be combined with our NEW Booster TOT. Designed for agencies/individuals who have previously experienced a FIP TOT and Recertification and want to deliver a 3-4-hour booster training for officers who have had the basic FIP course. The core concepts from the basic FIP training are reviewed and includes high-quality video scenarios that allow the participants to apply the key principles to common policing situations using a decision tree model.

1-Day/6 Hour TOT Recertification and Booster Course
Online

Recertification Course-The FIP® Recertification Course is designed for agency trainers who have previously attended an FIP Train-the-Trainer course.  During this 6-hour course, attendees will review the key principles of FIP, be introduced to the new-and-improved Patrol Officer and Supervisor curricula and

The Recertification Course will be combined with our NEW Booster TOT. Designed for agencies/individuals who have previously experienced a FIP TOT and Recertification and want to deliver a 3-4-hour booster training for officers who have had the basic FIP course.  The core concepts from the basic FIP training are reviewed and includes high-quality video scenarios that allow the participants to apply the key principles to common policing situations using a decision tree model.

Supervisor Courses

TThe FIP Training Program for Supervisor is an 8-hour program that applies the modern science of bias to policing; it trains supervisors on the effect of unconscious bias and gives them the information and skills they need to reduce and manage their biases. The curricula addresses, not just racial/ethnic bias, but biases based on other factors, such as gender, sexual orientation, religion, socio-economic status, age, and more. Supervisors will learn:

• How to recognize their own implicit biases, and skills to manage biases
• How to identify and intervene with subordinates who may be impacted by bias
• Identify how bias can impact both managerial and operational decision making
• How promoting fair and impartial policing can strengthen police- community trust
• The importance and role of policy in creating a fair and impartial agency

• All people, even well-intentioned people, have biases
• Having biases is normal to human functioning
• Biases are often implicit or unconscious, and can impact our perceptions and decisions
• To recognize their implicit biases, and how to implement skills to manage biases
• How promoting fair and impartial policing can strengthen police- community trust
